About

Twenty years in the room where transformation actually happens.

David Fowler founded butterflai after two decades spent on both sides of the table - inside the function carrying the budget and the risk, and outside advising on it as a Big Four consultant.

David in a quiet moment, reflecting on a piece of work

David has spent more than 20 years helping organisations use technology to transform performance, productivity and growth - combining over a decade in Big Four consulting with senior in-house leadership roles covering strategy, operations, cyber security, data, AI, architecture, delivery and technology investment.

Most recently, he was Technology Director & CIO at Warburtons. Before that, IT Delivery Director at cardfactory, and, earlier still, Consulting Director at both KPMG and PwC.

What runs through it

Technology only matters when it changes what people can actually do.

David is known for building high-performing, highly-engaged teams - not by accident, but because he treats developing the people around him as part of the job, not a nice-to-have alongside it.

Reviewing outcomes on a dashboard with a colleague

He founded butterflai to bring both halves of that experience - the consultant's pattern-recognition and the operator's scars - into the same room, for organisations who need a senior, trusted pair of hands rather than a large team to manage. He's based in Altrincham, UK, and holds a BEng in Computer Science and Software Engineering (1st Class Honours) from the University of Birmingham.

"I've sat on both sides of the table - inside the function carrying the budget, and outside advising on it. I started butterflai to bring both of those into the same room."
